S-Pass or Citizenship; How to get to Singapore

Singapore is one of the Asian countries that have quite relaxed policies about immigration but there are some requirements that must be met by applicants before they can get to Singapore. Here are the two main options for living in Singapore.

work in Singapore

The Employment Pass

Those individuals who wish to work and live in Singapore can apply for various employment passes offered by the Singaporean government.

The P Pass

P Passes are reserved for foreign individuals who are highly qualified and are looking for administrative, managerial or professional jobs in Singapore. Those individuals who earn $8000 and more are given the P1 pass while those whose incomes ranges anywhere between $4500 – 8000 are given the P2 pass. Both these passes are reserved for applicants who have appropriate qualifications as per the requirements of Singapore’s Ministry of Manpower.

Q Passes

Applicants with basic qualifications will get a Q1 pass. The individual must also prove that his salary is at least $3000 and he has completed minimum 5 GCE ‘O’ levels. However some individuals are still given Q1 passes when they do not have basic qualifications or salary depending upon the case.

S-Pass for Skilled Foreign Workers

Applicants who have acquired higher education in Singapore are more likely to get the S-Pass. However, those applicants who are degree holders from reputable universities and earn at least $2,200 are also eligible for this pass. The S-Pass is reserved for mid level skilled workers from abroad.

Basic Work Permits

All candidates who come under the category of unskilled laborers are given the basic work permit. This basic work permit is for those individuals who have had no formal education and cannot earn an income higher than $2000.

Becoming a Singaporean Citizen

Individuals who have already been working in Singapore as entrepreneurs, executives and professionals for at least two years can apply for citizenship status in Singapore. These individuals are given priority for citizenship since they already hold good jobs in Singapore. Applicants can apply for Singapore citizenship under the Accelerated Citizenship Scheme. Here are some important facts regarding Singapore citizenship.
·         Previously, the waiting period for citizenship status to be approved was around 2 -10 years but now it has been reduced to 2-6 years.
·         The citizen application’s processing time has also been slashed from 6-10 months to 3-6 months.
·         Women working in Singapore also have a chance to sponsor their husbands provided that they hold a permanent resident status since 2 years minimum.
These are some of the important requirements that you must know about before applying for citizenship or employment in Singapore.
